NEW DATE – Sunday 25th March 2018
Sunday 13th May 2018
Sunday 19th August 2018
<<< SHROPSHIRE DEVIL LATEST UPDATE – POSTPONED to Sunday 25th March>>>
Having looked at the prevailing conditions at all elevations on the Shropshire Devil routes, and the forecast for the week ahead, we have taken the decision to postpone the sportive. The new date will be Sunday 25th March.
We realise this will inconvenience some entrants and that not everybody can make the new date. Please accept our sincere apologies. We have not taken the decision lightly but we feel it is the right thing to do for the safety and wellbeing of riders and support crew alike.
We will be issuing pre-event information in advance of Sunday 25th March. Please read this carefully as there will be minor logistical / route alterations.
In the meantime:
– If you have entered and wish to transfer your entry to Sunday 25th March, you do not need to take any action. We will automatically enter you for the new date.
– If you have entered and are unable to make it on Sunday 25th March, you may (a) transfer your entry to another 2018 Drover Cycles Devil sportive at no additional cost (see website or contact us for dates) OR (b) transfer your entry to the 2019 Shropshire Devil sportive at no additional cost OR (c) claim a full refund. Refunds can be claimed up until 24th March which is the date on which they will be processed. Please email [email protected] to let us know your preference.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday 25th March for what we hope will be a warm, sunny Spring day in the saddle!
2018 Drover Cycles Sportive Series
2016 saw the launch of the Drover Cycles Sportive Series, a trio of road cycling challenges set in the glorious surroundings of Mid Wales and the Marches. We loved running these events and made some improvements for 2017 – better signage and even more homemade cakes, among other things. The sports massage therapist went down particularly well! The riders gave us some cracking feedback and we were delighted to welcome more participants on each event – a pleasing amount of growth for year two. In 2018 we are once again bringing you three routes taking in the finest riding in Shropshire, Herefordshire and the Brecon Beacons including classic climbs like the Long Mynd and Gospel Pass. We’ve tweaked the routes in places and taken on board your feedback. For 2018 we have rebranded the Powys Devil to reflect the fact that the landscapes of the Brecon Beacons are what makes this event so special. This event is in our back yard and these are the roads we love to ride. All routes are signposted with our easy-to-spot fluorescent pink arrows which seem to go down well with our sportive riders with comments including “spot on signage, we never missed a turn” and “perfect for me, didn’t miss a beat all day”. We have well-stocked feed stations run by our friendly team where you can fill up on sweet and savoury snacks, energy food and a range of hot and cold drinks. We have dairy free and gluten free options and, if you let us know you dietary requirements in advance, we will be happy to cater for particular diets, allergies or intolerances. You’ll also get mechanical and first aid support at the feed stations.
Please get in touch by calling 01497 822419 or email [email protected] if you have further questions. We promise you the very best in terms of event venues, support staff, mechanical help and food to keep you riding high!
About the Drover Cycles Sportive Series
We’re big fans of sportives here at Drover Cycles! We’ve been riding in and organising cycling events for a decade from our base here in Hay on Wye on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in the Welsh borders. We took over two successful sportives from Red Kite Events in 2016 and have put our own stamp on the events, adding a third route and continually improving signage, feed stations and adding extras to make our road cycling events some of the best around. So what have we got in store for you? Check out the individual pages for the season opening Shropshire Devil Sportive in March, the early summer Herefordshire Devil Sportive in May and our high summer Brecon Beacons Devil Sportive in August.
Since 2017 we have used the sportive series to raise awareness and funds for our chosen charity. In 2017 it was the turn of Mind, the mental health charity. We’ll be revealing our charity partner for 2018 soon – watch this space.
We will have collection boxes at each of the sportive HQs on the day or you can donate online. There is absolutely no obligation to make a donation. However if you would like to do some fundraising, note that we are offering a free place (a refund if you’ve already paid) to any rider who raises £250 or more for the charity as a little incentive!
