2017 Drover Cycles Sportives
2016 saw the launch of the Drover Cycles Sportive Series, a trio of road cycling challenges set in the glorious surroundings of Mid Wales and the Marches. We’re delighted that everyone who took part enjoyed themselves! And no wonder, with our routes taking in the finest riding in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powys including classic climbs like the Long Mynd and Gospel Pass. We’ve tweaked the routes in places and taken on board your feedback. So for 2017 we’ve got great routes to choose from and only the very best in terms of event venues, support staff, mechanical help and food to keep you riding high! The series kicks off with the Shropshire Devil in March 2017, followed by the Herefordshire Devil in May 2017 and concludes in August 2017 with the Powys Devil.
About the Drover Cycles Sportive Series
We’re big fans of sportives here at Drover Cycles! We’ve been riding in and organising cycling events for a decade from our base here in Hay on Wye on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in the Welsh borders.
So what have we got in store for you? Check out the individual pages for the season opening Shropshire Devil Sportive in March, the early summer Herefordshire Devil Sportive in May and our high summer Powys Devil Sportive in August.
2017 Charity Partner
For 2017 we decided we would like to help raise awareness and funds for a charity. There are so many good causes out there but we chose Mind because we believe mental health is something that should be more widely discussed and treated without stigma.
Why Mind? A few years ago we lost our friend, Neil Lawton, and wanted to do something to remember him. Neil was a bundle of exuberant energy and loved all things two-wheeled – you’d have had a job catching him on a climb up the Burway! Tragically he took his own life when he was at a low point and could see no light at the end of the tunnel. Mind provides support and advice which can help people get through difficult times, work out a way forward and live life to the full once more.
We will have collection boxes at each of the sportive HQs on the day or you can donate online via www.mind.org.uk. There is absolutely no obligation to make a donation. However if you would like to do some fundraising, note that we are offering a free place (a refund if you’ve already paid) to any rider who raises £250 or more for the charity as a little incentive!
