redstone brewery at Hay Bike Fest

Less than 24 hours to go before festival fever hits Hay for ten days of bookworming and philosophizing.

If you didn’t already know, Hay’s not content with just one festival – so we have two: the one-and-only Hay Festival, and the new(ish) kid on the festie block, How The Light Gets In.

And if you like your heavy thinking watered down with a little light drinking, you’ll be in good company at Drover HQ as we host our own mini beer festival right outside the shop!

Local brewmasters Redstone and Jones the Brewer will be plying their wares all weekend from tomorrow, and they’ll be back in residence next weekend, too.

If you’ve ever come home saddle-sore and aching from an arduous ride, or stopped off mid-pootle for a sunny pint, you’ll already be well aware how well bikes and beer go together.

Some claim beer is the ultimate isotonic drink while others swear by its muscle-repairing properties. Whilst these declarations have no medical grounding and clearly come liberally dosed with dewy-eyed optimism, we can’t deny – if it feels right, it must be good for you!

After you’ve enjoyed a pint or two, we’d recommend you toddle off into town in search of Drover treasure.

Hidden around Hay between the leaves of bike-related tomes in the town’s second-hand bookshops, we’ll be leaving a stack of money-off vouchers redeemable during festival week. There are 10 x £5 and one £25 golden ticket up for grabs.

Remember we’re here throughout the ten days for bike hire if you fancy beating the car park queues and getting around on two wheels instead of four. We’re also providing bike racks at the Hay Festival site.

And you can join us on Bank Holiday Monday for a free (but ticketed) afternoon led ride, with a pit-stop at Talgarth’s beautifully-restored, 18th century water mill.

Or saddle up on Wednesday 28th May and join the local cycling club, Velo Hay, for one of their weekly evening outings, leaving Drover HQ on Forest Road at 6pm.

Contact the shop on 01487 822 419 to book a slot on our led ride, or to arrange bike hire.
