Welcome to the Cafe at Drover Cycles! In the summertime we’re open 7 days a week, the same hours as our shop – 9am to 5.45pm Mon-Sat, 10am to 5pm on Sundays.  We have a limited menu but everything we serve is tasty, freshly prepared and very reasonably priced. We don’t do anything too fancy but we do believe in good food which us why we use quality, locally-sourced ingredients in our cafe. Many products and / or ingredients organic and Fair Trade.

Please drop us a line or give us a call to find out our daily specials. We’re also more than happy to cater for specific requirements or larger groups with a little advance warning. Just give us a call on 01497 822429.

Hot drinks

We serve a range of hot drinks including freshly brewed Black Mountain Roast coffee, speciality teas and luscious hot chocolate.

Cold drinks

Our thirst-quenching line up of cold drinks includes non-dairy chocolate mylk, fruit juice, sparkling elderflower and ginger beer.

Sandwiches & Hot Food

Bacon rolls and sausage sandwiches are ever-present on the menu – as is a halloumi and tomato option for the veggies! We serve toasties, pannini, soup/stew and salads. Beans on toast are always a popular choice for cyclists. A quiche, savoury flapjack or pasta dish might put in an appearance from time to time.
Anna’s homemade cakes are served seven days a week. We ring the changes but bara brith, carrot cake and flapjack are firm favourites. You might also find sticky ginger cake, banana teabread, chocolate brownies, lemon drizzle cake or a Victoria sponge on the counter… Remember, cycling burns lots of calories :-)
In addition to the above we sell a range of crisps, energy bars and luscious chocolate from the good folks at Coco Pzazz
Packed lunches

Heading for the hills? We can put together the perfect packed lunch for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers.  Tasty, nourishing foods for slow-release energy throughout the day. Please order the day before during the quieter winter months.

Please advise us of any dietary requirements or food intolerances when ordering.  We will always do our best to cater for your needs.

Our Food

Local. Tasty. Fair.  Those are our guiding principles when it comes to food and drink. In practice it means:

  • We work with local suppliers and producers to bring you the best that the Welsh border region has to offer, from bread to bacon and from cherries to cheese.
  • Our focus is on real food.  We like to make dishes from scratch using fresh ingredients and we steer clear of artificial flavours, colours and sweeteners preferring to let you enjoy the true taste of good food.   No frozen ready meals here!
  • Ensure our products are ethically sourced.  For us, coffee tastes much better if we know the producer has been paid a fair price and enjoys decent working conditions.  That’s while you will see the Fairtrade mark on many of our products and ingredients.
  • We only serve eggs from hens which are free to roam and only use free-range meat bought from our local butcher in Hay.

We don’t use frozen food, we buy locally and eat what we don’t use.

Ethically Sourced

where available our food and particularly our coffee is Fair Trade

We don’t just bin our waste, we turn it into compost and everything that can be recycled, is.

We’ve been running walking and cycling holidays and operating our bike shop and hire centre in Hay for the best part of a decade.  The Cafe at Drover Cycles is a natural extension to our business and our ethos.  When it comes to food and drink we believe it should be local, tasty and fair.  We won’t just be catering for walkers and cyclists, everyone is welcome!  We are open to the general public so if you work locally and are looking for affordable breakfasts, tasty lunches and healthy snacks please come on down!  We have vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options and we use as many local and Fairtrade products as possible.

  • Cycle parking.  Keep an eye on your pride and joy while you munch your beans on toast. We also have car parking spaces for those arriving by motorised means.
  • On-site mechanic.  Need a gear adjustment while you sip your peppermint tea?  No problem, if the cafe is open so is our workshop.
  • Toilets and showers.  You are welcome to make use of our facilities.
  • Outdoor seating. Please note that our cafe tables are all out in the fresh Welsh air.  We do not currently offer any indoor seating, though you’re welcome to shelter in the shop if the weather is inclement!
  • Ideal for Offa’s Dyke Path, we’re just a field away from this National Trail.
