Deore and SLX components for the Mantle 20

Nice paint-job, of course!

Anna's new ride

Oversized head tube for some tapered forks
Anna has claimed this one for herself (lucky that we didn’t get there first!). It’s part of the Aluminium Mantle range from Genesis’ mountain bike collection and comes spec’ed with a mixture of Deore and SLX components which we like ‘cos they work well and continue to do so ride after ride after ride. Genesis have used the xx44 head-tube standard which means that they can run forks with tapered steerers (in this case a Rockshox Recon Air) and ensures precise handling. Being aluminium it’s a bit lighter than the equivalent steel frames which make it perfect for a lighter rider wanting a well balanced 29er. In Anna’a case she swapped out the saddle for a female specific Madison Breeze model (don’t worry she has been told to match the grips to the new saddle choice!), some DMR V12s and was ready to go!
Genesis were slow to take up the 29er as a concept but it turns out that they were just taking time to get it right. I am a big fan of big wheels but must admit that some of the early offerings from various brands left much to be desired. The key, it seems, is geometry and that is what Genesis have been refining on their 29ers. We have always been a fan of how Genesis hard-tails ride so we are pleased that they have been able to keep these qualities in the big wheeled versions of the 26″ bikes we’ve grown so fond of.
Seeing as I won’t be able to prise it away from Anna (and it’d be a bit on the small side for me anyway) we will have to pick her brains for a long term review once she’s got it muddy a few times!
