There’s still plenty of to make the most of Autumn riding with a cracking line-up of mountain bike events this month.
Entries are closed now for the Howies Tide to Tide beach-based relay which takes place tomorrow in Pembrey Country Park, but if you’ve already bagged a place and find yourself short of something to ride, we can arrange a hire.
Later this month, local event organiser Red Kite have two off-road challenges.
The XC-orientated Autumn Devil, based out of Llanwrtyd Wells, is next weekend (October 11th). It’s 60k of physical and mental hardship and the route has been designed by an ex-downhiller, so expect it to up the ante over and above the usual XC events – techy downhill and testing singletrack will be the order of the day! Entry is £25 and you can do it here.
Staying with Red Kite, they round off their Empire Cycles Enduro Series with the third and final installment for 2014 on 25th-26th October.
This is a weekend-long gravity enduro race with a whopping seven stages, again based out of Llanwrtyd Wells. Saturday morning will be given over to practice and the first two timed stages will be raced in the afternoon.
The last five downhill runs will take place on Sunday. Enter here for £49, or race the Sunday only for £30. You can expect rock gardens, steep drops and tight turns!
The same weekend, Cardiff hosts the multi-discipline Burn Series challenge. (October 26th) It’s a 10km run, 3km of kayaking and a 30km mountain bike orienteering course. Teams of two can enter here for £45 per person, which includes kayak hire.
Remember you don’t need to have your own bike if you fancy testing your mettle on any of these challenges – we have a massive hire fleet of mountain bikes, from top-notch hardtails with smooth-rolling 650b wheels to burly full-sussers.
Check out our bike hire page for more info, call us on 01497 822 419 or feel free to swing by the store in Hay to see and try the bikes for yourself.
