Our new tourers are custom built Surly Disc Truckers. Built up with the steel frame of the “Long Haul Trucker” but with the added stopping power of hydraulic discs. These legendary bikes are designed for loading up and taking on long distance tours, whether around Wales or around the world. They will carry full trekking loads in comfort with rock steady handling. Mainly intended for road use, but they will happily take you on gravel piste or forest tracks too. We bulid them with super strong DT Swiss GR531 gravel wheels and tubeless Hutchinson tyres, so you need not fear the thorns or the potholes.
The wheel size depends on the bike size with the smaller frames designed round 26″ wheels and the medium to large with 700c. Ours will have Shimano GRX 2×10 groupset, for a huge range of hill climbing gears. They will be offered complete with racks and mudguards, and 2 bottle cages – all you need bring is a map and your panniers! (We have panniers for hire if you need them too.)
You can collect them from our base in Hay on Wye and start your tour here. We are right on the Sustrans Route 42 which starts in Chepstow, and is also part of the Eurovelo 2 which continues through Wales as Route 8 all the way to Holyhead. Our tour department can even arrange tours for this whole trans Wales route the known in Wales as the “ Lon Las Cymru“, and book your accommodation, and provide daily maps and route notes. We can also deliver to local train stations such as Abergavenny and Hereford, if you wish to start a tour there.
