Our new tourers are custom built Surly Disc Truckers. Built up with the steel frame of the “Long Haul Trucker” but with the added stopping power of hydraulic discs. These legendary bikes are designed for loading up and taking on long distance tours, whether around Wales or around the world. They will carry full trekking loads in comfort with rock steady handling. Mainly intended for road use, but they will happily take you on gravel piste or forest tracks too.
The wheel size depends on the bike size with the smaller frames designed round 26″ wheels and the medium to large with 700c. Ours will have Shimano GRX 2x 10 groupset, for a huge range of hill climbing gears. They will be offered complete with rear racks and mudguards, and 2 bottle cages – all you need bring is a map and your panniers! (We have panniers and GPS for hire as extras if you need them too, and we can fit a front rack if needed.)
You can collect them from our base in Hay on Wye and start your tour here. We are right on the Sustrans Route 42 which starts in Chepstow, and is also part of the Eurovelo 2 which continues through Wales as Route 8 all the way to Holyhead. We can also deliver to local train stations such as Abergavenny and Hereford, if you wish to start a tour there.
Mini tours (2 or 3 days) such as the “Radnor Ring” or “Wye Valley Meander” can be started from Hay, and as we are near the border why not add on a Herefordshire cider circuit too?
