This week we’re steering our Winter Sale off-road with some stunning mountain bike offers. Grab a bargain, hit the trails and embrace the mud!

First up, we have several Saracen Mantra Pro hardtails in various sizes up for grabs. The price means they’re ideal for beginner and intermediate riders, but in truth the Mantra Pro goes way beyond ‘entry-level’ status, as various mountain bike magazine reviewers discovered on test runs over the summer.

UK brand Saracen truly came of age in 2014, consolidating a period of inspired reinvention. The Mantra Pro has been at the forefront of the relaunch, and has ably proved that fun, playful hardtails with modern geometry and sweet-spot 650b wheels don’t have to cost a fortune!

What Mountain Bike’s picky testers heaped praise on the bike in June’s issue, giving it a near-perfect four-and-a-half out of five stars and asking: ‘Is this hardtail all you need?’

And Mountain Bike Rider magazine awarded the bike second place in their prestigious Hardtail of the Year grouptest. ‘The Mantra Pro is so responsive to rider input, you can’t help but play around and have fun with it,’ they said.

Our ex-hire Mantra Pros are discounted to £395 from £599. As with all our hire bikes, they’ve been fastidiously maintained and serviced after every ride by our in-house tech team.

Sticking with Saracen, we also have the Pro’s stablemate – the standard Mantra. These ex-hire bikes are down from £499 to £395. They’re literally a few months old, nearly new and barely ridden.

Also from the UK, we have Genesis High Latitude hardtails crafted from forgiving Reynolds 530 steel and equipped with 2×10 drivetrain and Rockshox forks. 29” wheels and the steel tubes do a great job of taming rough ground – this is the perfect bike for big day rides and hitting up the natural trails.

Mountain Bike Rider contributor Benji Haworth also rates them for bike-packing outings. He told us: “The High Latitude is a mighty fine ride. It coped with everything I asked of it. Long gradual ascents, short sharp climbs, rocky descents, twisty woodland singletrack. Roomy and comfy for all day riding. Capable geometry for the fun stuff. A nice taut feeling frame finished off with well chosen fault-free finishing kit. And the colour is lovely too.”

Our ex-hire models are down from £1499 to £850, and we have one bike with upgraded wheels (Mavic Cross Roc – RRP £350) at £1050.

From Surly, we have a brand new Krampus frameset with 10% off, down to £585 from £650. The Surly’s not officially a fat bike, but it’s definitely borderline portly! Whopping 3” tyres roll on 50mm rims, but whereas fat bikes have reputation for trundling on loose and squidgy, the Krampus is designed for thrashing trails at speed. And you can do away with fiddly suspension forks – the frameset comes with maintenance-free rigid forks as standard.

Also from Surly, we have an Ogre frameset, discounted from £500 to £450. This is a bike built for on and off-road exploring. It’s equally at home on tarmac commutes as it is touring off-road while towing trailers or hauling rack-mounted baggage. Singletrack outings and bike-packing epics – this bike does it all.
